About the In-Person Workshop
The day will begin at the East Berlin Library learning about Ecological Gardening, exploring its significance and practical applications for our own gardens. We will then travel to two typical neighborhood gardens and be guided through the thoughts and actions of those homeowners. One garden focuses on ornamentals, the other, vegetables. There will be an interactive activity in the vegetable garden, and lunch will be provided at the ornamental garden. Enjoy the beauty of the gardens, while understanding their ever changing and evolving needs.
Event Details
Attendees will have the opportunity to travel to two gardens. Transportation to the gardens is not included. The event will happen rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. Walking on uneven terrain will be necessary. Lunch for the event is provided and included in the price.
About the Gardens
The Smith Garden uses innovative ideas and a unique approach to vegetable gardening which includes companion planting, raised bed no-till methods, and succession planting among others. Learn how to produce many vegetables in a typical, suburban setting. Prepare to be inspired by fresh concepts and depart with valuable insights.
The Mrgich Garden contains many native plants selected for their attractiveness to pollinators and their contribution to a small-wildlife habitat. Composting, no-till and other low maintenance practices are the norm in this garden along with homemade storm water run-off control.
