Ram Navami 2024: On the ninth day of the waxing phase of Chaitra month, the festival of Lord Ram's birth, known as Ram Navami, is celebrated.As per the calendar, the ninth day of the waxing phase of Chaitra month will commence on April 16, 2024, at 01:23 PM and conclude the next day, April 17, 2024, at 03:14 PM. Ram Navami is observed according to the sunrise timing.

Therefore, this year, Ram Navami falls on April 17, 2024, Wednesday. It was during the waxing phase of the Chaitra month in the Treta Yuga, precisely on the ninth day, that Lord Vishnu's incarnation, Sri Ram, manifested. Hence, on this day, the birth of Lord Ram is celebrated with temple prayers, chants, and hymns.

Ram Navami will be especially significant this year at Lord Ram's birthplace in Ayodhya, where devotees will have 2 hours and 35 minutes for worship.

Mythological Story Behind Ram Navami:

Scriptures narrate a mythological tale regarding the births of Lord Ram and his three brothers. It is said that when King Dasharatha's queens, Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi, didn't conceive children, he arranged for a Putreshthi Yajna. After consuming the prasad, each queen conceived. Kausalya bore Ram, Kaikeyi bore Bharat, and Sumitra bore Lakshman. Since then, this date has been celebrated as Ram Navami.

Ram Navami Puja Procedure:

To perform Ram Navami puja, following procedures are to b followed:

• Wake up in the morning and first perform ablutions.
• Then worship and anoint Lord Ram at home or in the temple.
• Perform the puja of Lord Ram with Shodashopachar Vidhi, offering sandalwood, flowers, new clothes, etc.
• Offer kheer as Bhog.
• Reading the Ram Charit Manas on Ram Navami is excellent, but if time is short, reading Sundarkand is essential. This brings prosperity and happiness to the home.
• On the day of Ram Navami, keep a bowl of Ganga water and chant the Ram Raksha Mantra 108 times. Sprinkle this water on the corners of the house to dispel all negativity.
